English title: Catalogue of the Exhibition of Spanish Fabrics prior to the introduction of Jacquard. Frontispiece present. Tissue paper for all plates present. The tissue for plate 11 was not cut correctly and is folded back in on itself, letting some slight fading occur to the plate. The tissue for plate 40 has a .5 cm hole, with the torn paper being attached to the plate. All other tissues show signs of age. Plates are all in very good condition, with the exception noted. Pages 27-38 have a small oblong hole 1 cm in length at the very bottom along the edges. All pages show fading and most have spotting. Front paste-down end paper has a bookstore sticker. Front free end paper has previous owners names and a dedication written. Text in Spanish. Boards are faded with some heavier soiling on the back and closer to the edges. Cloth pilling in some places and the front board has a white spec of material affixed. Spine is frayed and has several rips on the top edge. Sewn binding exposed at several points throughout.
A rare catalog of an exhibition put on by the Sociedad Española de Amigos del Arte (Spanish Society for the Friends of the Arts), presenting textiles made before the introduction of the Jacquard machine. This machine was a device that, once fitted to a loom, simplified the process of manufacturing textiles with complex patterns. The Jacquard loom used punch cards for automation, an important step in the history of computing. Presented in this book are 41 plates of black and white photographs and 10 beautiful color reproductions of intricate textiles made by the human hand.
