Empire State Postmasters' Cook Book

Nassau County Postmasters' Association, 1957. Ring-bound softcover. Octavo, 20.3 x 15 cm; 296 pp. Pages a bit faded and spotted on the edges but otherwise clean and unmarked. Binding strong and intact. Inside front cover has pen writing. Front and rear panels are both worn and have bumped corners. Front shows scuffing and fading, crease marks, writing on the top right, and a small tear.

Collected and edited by Nassau County Postmasters' Association; Chairman Helen Regan, Postmaster. Dedicated to Mr. Arthur Summerfield, who contributed a recipe. Summerfield was the 57th Postmaster General of the United States, serving under President Eisenhower. He led the campaign against the mailing of obscene materials, confiscating a rare volume of Aristophanes' play Lysistrata. He also wanted to use missiles to deliver mail, leading to the first and only launch of a letter laden cruise missile. Good. Item #96
